Felicia Brabec is running for reelection as State Representative because she is committed to making Washtenaw County and Southeast Michigan a place everyone is proud to call home. Prior to being elected to her first term as State Representative in 2020, Felicia proudly served Washtenaw County on the Board of Commissioners for eight years. With over 200 bills sponsored and cosponsored ranging from expanding mental health care access, protecting the environment, protecting the right to choose, reforming criminal justice, and more, Felicia has proven her ability to be a bipartisan champion for Washtenaw County.
The daughter of parents who would not have been able to be legally married just five years prior, Felicia’s life has been shaped by a strong commitment to working with others to create a community we all want to live in. As the representative for Michigan’s 55th house district, Felicia has advocated for our right to live free from environmental concerns like PFAS and Dioxane, students’ access to quality education, sustainable small businesses, and affordable mental and physical healthcare, including protecting women’s reproductive freedom, for everyone. Felicia knows that in order to thrive, a community needs good schools, a healthy local economy with access to jobs for everyone, affordable healthcare, and access to real conversations with their elected officials. As State Representative, she has led the effort to bridge Washtenaw County’s disparities by supporting bills that streamline the provision of Community Mental Health Services, support workers, fund critical proposals in the state budget, and protect the county’s environment. As a mom and someone who works with young people every day, Felicia is acutely aware of the need for more accessible mental and physical health services. Felicia is a practicing clinical psychologist with a master's degree in Clinical Social Work and over two decades of experience. She is the owner of her own small business, mother of two, and an enthusiastic sports fan. Felicia, her husband David, and their two kids Alex and Viviann live in Pittsfield Township. When they’re not driving to basketball and soccer tournaments or school plays, they love spending time at Lillie Park, cheering on our Wolverines, and eating ice cream from our delicious local businesses. Felicia and David are proud to be raising a family in a community that reflects many of the values they want to live by and instill in their children: love, empathy, inclusivity, justice, and care for one another. |
1. We need more health practitioners in Lansing.
Every day I see how hard my clients work to make ends meet, keep up with the demands of the day, care for their families, and survive in a system that was only built to support a select few. There need to be more health professionals with clinical experience at the table who understand the daily challenges our neighbors face. From expanding access to direct care to tackling environmental justice issues, educational inequity, and women’s reproductive rights, health care practitioners are uniquely positioned to see day-to-day issues holistically and put people over profits. |
2. I want to bring the Equity work we’ve built here in Washtenaw County to a higher level.
Washtenaw County’s Equity Policy is the culmination of about six years of time and effort by what began as a small group of dedicated people to a growing critical mass of County staff and administration, elected officials, and community members. Breathing life into this policy ensures that this work and the reality of many in our community cannot be ignored. There are inequities in our county and our state that we must face, address, and make right and I will continue to bring what we’ve learned right here in Washtenaw County to Lansing. |
